I would like to know if there is a way to make the font thinner but still
keep the hight of the font. I need to fit a certain word on one line on font
size 180 and it is too long.

Many ways.

In WORD,

a) You can decrease the letter spacing, which reduces the space
between the letters. Select, right click, font, letterspacing. This
doesn't affect the individual characters, but effectively squeezes the
line.

b) Use "Insert Word Art" and pick the very first style (in the upper
left corner). After creating the word in the font and point size you
need, the result is a graphic that you can squeeze or stretch.

Or you can create the word as a graphic in just about any graphic
application, which will give you various ways to deform it.

A quick way to achieve that, if the word is supposed to fill the whole line,
is Ctrl+Shift+J.

If the characters then look too squished together, you might make them a
little narrower using Format > Font, Spacing tab, Scale: 95% (or whatever).

Or you could look for a "Narrow" font variant.

I should have checked first: That "distributed alignment" only increases
letter spacing to the necessary amount, never decreases it.

Hi AYJ

A simple way to do this would be to put the text into a table cell, then use the 'fit text' option (Table|Table
Properties|Cell|Options & check 'fit text').

use the 'fit text' option (Table|Table Properties|Cell|Options & check

'Fit text' reduces the point size. The OP wanted to retain the height
of the characters.

Using the 'envelope' function in a graphics program could also do what
the OP wants, or, as Klaus Linske suggested, finding a narrow or
condensed version of the font would also help.

'Reduce text' reduces the font width, not its height - to the point that, if there's enough, it will eventually become incapable of
display.

Unless
I'm missing something-which is entirely possible-

Select the text, navigate to Font Character Spacing tab
Adjust Scale to a suitable value.

Hi Tom,

Changing the character spacing does not of itself change the character width - it simply changes how far apart they are.
