Discussion:
Envelopes are printing red instead of black?

When I print envelope addresses, they print in red ink instead of black even
though the document prints in black. I have changed the envelope font color
to black by default and it still prints red.

For reasons unknown, some inkjet printers use composite black (made up of
the colors in the color cartridge) instead of true black (from the black
cartridge) for envelopes and other smaller paper sizes. When your "black"
starts coming out red (or blue or green), it's usually a sign that the
balance of inks in the color cartridge is no longer even, and you will soon
need to replace it.

Insanely, sometimes the color cartridge doesn't print properly when the
black cartridge is out of ink and vice versa. Have you tried replacing both?

Yes, I replaced both. I do not understand why the documents print in black
and the envelopes print in red if it is a cartridge problem?

I'd say you've exhausted my "useful" suggestions at this point! I do just
know that (a) some printers use the color cartridge to print envelopes so
that (b) being able to prit documents in black is no guarantee that you can
print envelopes in black. But if you've replaced both cartridges, then this
seems unlikely to be the issue. The only other thing I can suggest is that
you change the font color of the Envelope Address and Envelope Return styles
from Auto to Black and see if that makes any difference.

I have a Lexmark Z715. If you do File, Print, and select Printer Properties,
there is an option under Quality/Speed that you can check: Print Color
Images In Black & White. This solved my problem, no more red envelopes! Be
sure to change it back when you're finished.

Glad you found an answer, and perhaps it will help the OP, but I'm still
curious about why this whole situation arises. The writers of printer
drivers must have very strange brains.

Did you happen to have Track Changes On in the document, then add the
envelope after accepting/rejecting the changes *without* turning Track
Change Off? If that's not the case you may want to check the printer mfr's
web site for an updated driver. If none is available reinstall a fresh copy
of the current one - drivers _do_ corrupt from time to time.
