Hello,

I'm using the Minion Pro Medium font and when I bold some text, Word
uses fake bold instead of the Minion Pro Bold font. Is there any way
to get it to use the real bold font? Same with Medium Italic->Bold
Italic.

Thanks :)

WIndows and MSWord only recognize four different members of a family;
Regular, Bold, Italic, and Bold-Italic.

The weights available in Minion are, in increasing weight order:

Regular
Medium
Semi-bold
Bold
Black

Bold is associated with Regular; so to get THAT particular weight in
MSWord for WIndows, you have to select Regular and Bold it. All the
other weights can be selected directly.

Similarly for Bold-Italic, you'd select Regular and the B and I.

What you posted into, and where I answered, is a leftover of the MS
newsgroups that happen to be left in other news servers. In
particular, the Microsoft MVP's are no longer here.

If your newsserver has sufficient retention, look for message subjects
starting with 'Reminder' and 'Final Reminder' in April and May.

THis is an excerpt from the final message:

Sure they are.

There's just never been much traffic at all in this particular
newsgroup.

I'm still reading the same microsoft.public NGs I always did, but there is
very low traffic in all of them now that MS has cut off the feed from the
Office Communities Web portal (which has closed). It seems to be picking up
a little, though, as more people find other ways back to the NGs.

There seem to be brief bursts of messages over at docmanagement, but
two days of nothing!

I can't imagine why anyone would be posting in .docmanagement now that it's
back to being "Document Management" instead of "General Questions."

Oh, does "docmanagement" actually mean something? So how did it come
to be the "General Questions" group?

When the "communities" were being set up, it was put to the Word MVPs that
there had to be a "General Questions" forum. Since the old word.general
(though it may still survive on Usenet) had been deprecated years earlier,
another had to be chosen. At the time, .docmanagement was a very low-traffic
NG, at least in part because no one knew what it was supposed to be for, so,
without sufficient thought, we said, "Use that one--it can do no harm." <g>
