Hi there-- hope someone can help.

My curly quotes have disappeared. I simply can't use them at all,
they're gone. I'm using Office 2007 on XP SP3. Here's what I've tried:

Word menu (big funny button in corner) > Word Options > Proofing >
AutoCorrect Options > AutoFormat.

In the "Replace" section, I made sure the "Straight quotes" with
"smart quotes" is checked.

Click OK, OK, OK.... still no curly quotes.

Reboot. Still no curly quotes.

Got out my Office 2007 disk, did the "repair" process. Reboot. No
dice.

Did a de-install/reinstall of Office 2007. Reboot. No dice.

Thoughts? I need those quotes. Thanks in advance.

You hit the wrong tab; it's AutoFormat As You Type where you need to enable
them.

What Suzanne said ...

But ALSO - SOME fonts simply don't have proper typographical right and
left single and double quotes (what you call 'curly quotes'). This is
true of many free and shareware fonts as well as a few commercial ones.

Not to mention that in some fonts (Arial is a prime example), the "curly"
quotes look just the same as the "straight" quotes at ordinary text sizes
and Zoom ratios; you have to increase the font size or zoom in to see that
they are actually the typeset-quality characters.
