While working on a document with different fonts I've loaded, I get a message
"There is insufficient memory or disc space to complete the operation. Word
cannot display the requested font." I didn't get this message until after I
had successfully completed and saved the doc. (new computer, new install of
Word '07)

Have you installed Acrobat or Adobe Reader? This page may be relevant:

There are some fonts, mainly a couple of amateur freewares that are
extremely complex, that could produce an error like that as well.

For some reason, this response, posted through another newsserver,
(not by me), never got to the msnews.microsoft.com newsserver.
