Hello,

I am havning a hard time finding out how to install Clarendon Condensed for
Word 2003. I noticed that the defualt Office install has only TT fonts and
the one I want I think is installed once a HP printer is installed.

I thought I had this problem solved by just installing the s/w for the
printer, that installs the font, but I've tried it several times after
installing drivers for a dozen different printers and all I have are still TT
fonts. Is there a way that they are hidden or something? I've never had this
problem before.

Thanks,
Steve

I don't think you got Clarendon Condensed with an HP printer. The fonts that
are resident in HP printers are usually installed as TrueType fonts (for use
as screen fonts, if nothing else), with the resident font substituted at
print time unless you tell the printer to download the TT fonts as soft
fonts.

If the font was an Adobe PostScript font, it would have displayed a printer
icon; perhaps you installed it with Adobe Type Manager or some other Adobe
app?

Clerendon Condensed is available in HP LaserJets. I do not recall if it
is identified as Bold (or Bd). In any case it is rather bold when
printed. It is supplied to HP by Agfa Monotype. It should show on font
menus if the correct printer driver is installed for the printer and it
is selected as default or if the fonts were installed which were supplied
on a CD, possibly with the printer drivers, to be installed as screen
fonts. (This is the situation Suzanne mentions).

So, indeed, the fonts might be available on the disk that came with the
printer. It has been quite a while, but I recall that not all of HP's
driver packages include the screen fonts. There are driver packages
available on the HP www site that contain the fonts. I suspect the the
package for your printer does.

Some Corel applications such as Word Perfect and Draw install Bitstream
versions of Clarendon fonts. They are identified as such with BT after
the font name.

I'm not sure any of this is any help to you but there it is.

Made me look! I don't know why Clarendon Condensed didn't get installed when
I installed stuff on my new computer (presumably because I had to find a
driver online for my LaserJet and consequently didn't reinstall the CD that
includes the fonts), but I looked in my Available Fonts folder and did find
CC, which, BTW, is named Clarendon Condensed Bold.

Last night in dim light I was unable to put my hands on the fat folder that
has printer info in it, including the list of printer-resident fonts. If I'd
been clever, I would have printed a fresh one.
