Hi, I have bought a Dell computer almost 2 years ago and it already had
the modern.ttf font file installed (no, I am not talking about the
modern.fon file). I have first reinstalled Windows XP without any
problems. When I have installed Windows XP for the second time and
thereafter, the modern.ttf file was not installed or it was missing
from the Windows XP installation disk. I have looked all over the
internet for a possible download link, but have not had any luck. Is
there a way that someone would send me the modern.ttf file or tell me
of a place to download the file or exactly what software is it
installed in? Thank you very much.

There are a few different fonts named "Modern", and many more with
"Modern" as part of their name.

Bitstream's "Modern No. 20" is included (but not automatically
installed) with all of the following Microsoft products (and possibly
some other later ones):

Access 97 SR2, Greetings 99, Home Publishing 99, Office 2000 Premium,
Office 97 Small Business Edition SR2, Office 97 SR1a, Office
Professional Edition 2003, PhotoDraw 2000, Picture It! 2000, Picture
It! 2002, Picture It! 98, Publisher 2000, Publisher 97, Publisher 98

List is from this useful MS web page:
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/default.aspx

There is also an old "Modern", originally from MicroLogic, with a
usual file name of Modern.ttf, included with a number of products
branded by Brøderbund, such as PrintMaster, ClickArt, etc.

I have already looked for it in Google and other search engines and
have had no success. There happened to be one modern.ttf file found,
but it was the wrong one. Instead the name of that particular font
started with a "Z" which I forgot the actual name. This modern.ttf
file is generally used in forms in Internet Explorer instead of the
Arial font in older versions of Windows. I have also looked in a few
FTP search engines without success. I hope this helps you understand.
Thanks very much.

Doesn't help at all. You seem to be asking for a font whose name you can't
remember, called 'modern' but beginning with 'z'. Hmmm.

I thought he meant that the one he found (which was the wrong one) started
with z (Zapf?).
