At this point, unless some Vista-knowledgeable person surfaces here, I'm
going to suggest that you post your question elsewhere. I'm going to
cross-post this to microsoft.public.word.printingfonts, which may be
helpful, but if that does not suffice, then perhaps a Vista newsgroup would
be a better choice.
Before we go farther, though, are you sure that you have non-TrueType fonts
that are printable? Those that are labeled with a roman capital A are system
fonts. Word will never use them because they can't be printed. Those with a
script capital A are Adobe fonts, and you should definitely see those,
though in your Word fonts list, they will be marked with a printer icon
rather than the script A. Also labeled with a printer icon will be any fonts
that are resident in your printer (these will not show up in the Fonts
folder unless you have software equivalents (usually TrueType) installed for
display purposes.
Also, as has already been pointed out, bold, italic, and bold italic
variants will not be listed separately; Word uses those when you apply the
bold, italic, or bold italic font properties to text.

The good new is: pressing Alt after opening the Fonts folder does make
"Tools" appear on the menu -- Hooray! The bad news is: under Folder
Options
in the Tools menu there still is no True Type Fonts tab -- only the
General,
View, and Search tabs. So I still can't uncheck the "Show only True Type
fonts" box. But I feel like we're getting closer!

I was afraid of that. Someone who is running Vista will probably be able
to
help more, but a Google search turns up several pages that seem to
indicate
that pressing Alt will make the traditional menu (including Tools)
appear.

When I go to the Control Panel and double-click the Fonts folder, I
can't
find a Tools menu that will give me access, ultimately, to the True
Type
Fonts tab. I'm trying to make all fonts in the folder show up in
the
Word
drop-down list. All 213 of the ones that show there now are
labeled
as
True
Type. I've tried changing the default printer and that doesn't
help.
Is
there another way to get at the True Type Fonts tab?
