Discussion:
Print two copies of a 8.5 x 5.5 page to a 8.5 x 11 sheet

I see several posts on printing multiple pages per sheet but I couldn't find
a post for this specific need.

I have a single page currently formatted at 8.5"w x 5.5"h (portrait). I would
like to print two copies of this page to a single 8.5" x 11" sheet.

If I select multiple copies, my page prints two times to two separate sheets.

If I go into Page Setup and select "2 pages per sheet" it says "Paper size
setting conflicts with the orientation". If I change the orientation to
Landscape then the layout gets all whopperjawed.

How do I get the results I need?

Thanks ALL!

Copy your page twice to a full-size page?

Thanks, but this would defeat the purpose of the question. Since the document
is a form which changes in content before each time the user prints, copy and
paste wouldn't be so much the trouble as trying to align both occurrances so
they are aligned identically on each half of the 8.5x11 sheet of paper.

As Suzanne has already pointed out. Word is designed to handle situations
like this, its just knowing it well enough to do it.

Thanks again for your consideration!

You're on the right track. In Page Setup, set "Multiple pages" to "2 pages
per sheet" and Orientation to Landscape, which represents the orientation of
the paper, not the page. You'll see in the preview that you have two small
portrait pages on the larger landscape sheet. You'll also need to change the
paper size to 8.5" x 11" on the Paper tab. Once you've done that, your
existing 5.5" x 8.5" document should fit neatly on one "page" of the new
layout.

I should have added that if you have just a single page and want to print it
twice, you have two options:

1. Select the entire page, Copy, and Paste to page 2, then print the whole
document; or

2. Leave the document as a single page but print pages 1,1.

Thanks Suzanne!

Since the document is only one page (8.5 x 5.5), the two pages per sheet only
works if more than one page is included in the print job. If I print "2
copies" it will still print 1 page per sheet. To fix it, I entered "1,1" in
the "Pages" box in the print dialog box. This way it is a two page document.

However, this creates a second challenge. Since I'm setting this up for
someone who wont remember to put "1,1" in the Pages box, is there a way to
set this up so the user only needs to enter the number of copies (sheets)?

Thanks Sooo Much!!!

In that case, you use my first suggestion, to copy page 1 to page 2.

Suzanne's reply should work ... but I'm curious ... what did you mean
by "whopperjawed"; could you please describe exactly what you ended up
getting?

I'm not sure where you are from but "whopperjawed" (also spelled wapper jawed)
is hillbilly for "Not aligned correctly". That's how we say it in the Ohio
Valley (OH, WV, KY and TN) <grins>

So, by changing the orientation, the content on the document was not aligned
correctly anymore. But it's fixed now!

thanks for your help!
