If this is a manuscript intended for publication, it might be that the
publisher wants PostScript fonts used instead of TrueType. If so, the
Courier expected might be Linotype's. While the metrics are the same as
Monotype's TrueType Courier New, you might find some layout differences
in Word if you change from one to the other. I suspect that is due to
cumulative effect of differences between the Windows's rasteriser's
handling of TrueType -vs- Postscript fonts-but I can't confirm that.
There are some slight differences in certain glyphs/characters. (e. g.
fgGJK@) as between Monotype's Courier New and Linotype's Courier.
In short (if it's not too late for that already), if these considerations
apply to your client, you might find it advisable to get the files for
the PostScript Courier to install and use.

Post by BarbTom,
Thank you for responding. I sent a couple of the pages that I typed up in
Courier New to my client and he is going to see if it is the same as he has
used before. He is a writer so he needs a certain font. Maybe it will be
the same. Other people on some forums told me that it was not the same and
then when I seen that there was another one in my font folder I figured they
were correct. Hopefully my client will be able to use this font, you are
probably correct. Thanks again for responding to my problem.
Post by Tom FergusonWell, I'm confused. Courier New is a standard Courier font. It is a
Monotype design. If you could let us know in what respect it is not
satisfactory for your needs, perhaps someone can suggest a remedy.
The Courier you see in the fonts folder but not in Word is a
bit-mapped
screen font provided for backward compatibility. Certain device drivers
and applications expect it to be installed on the system and use it for
various system purposes. Word will not print with it and so does not
display it in its font menus.

Post by BarbI have a project to do for a client and they require the standard Courier
font 12. On my Microsoft Word it doesnt show up, only Courier New, etc. I
have gone to Font folder and it shows up in there so I clicked on install new
font and did that okay, but it wont show up in Word when I try to
type
the
document. This is so frustrating. If anyone has any help or knows what I am
doing wrong, please please help me. Thanks.
