Is it still possible to submit bugs in Word 2003 and will does
Microsoft still repair non-security based bugs? If so how? When I
try to go through Microsoft connect they do not show Office 2003 as an
available connection.

We have a large number of customers having problems with the following
bug:

Title: Embedded fonts disappear after saving document

Description: If a user receives a document with an embedded font that
has full embedding rights (i.e. installable embedding), opens the
document and then saves it to their harddrive. The next time the
document is opened a substituted font appears in place of the embedded
font. This has been documented across many systems and installations.

Reproduce steps:
1. Create new word document.
2. Turn on font embedding.
3. Use a font with full embedding rights (installable embedding), that
the receiving computer does not have installed on it.
4. Send or copy file to receiving computer.
5. Open file in word.
6. Save file (File save).
7. Close file.
8. Reopen file.

Actual result: Substituted font is used in place of embedded font.

Expected result: Ability to see the embedded font.

Just a tip:
After the step 5 try to perform the step 2 and continue with step 6.

After the step 5 try to perform the step 2 and continue with step 6
Same issue still happens. When looking at font embedding it is already
checked. I tried checking and unchecking but that did not change the
outcome. After saving to a new file embedding is lost.

What you're trying to do stopped working after Word 97 or thereabouts
(it DOES work in Word 97). Here's my hypothetical reasoning for why
it no longer works:

In Word 97, if you opened a document that contained an
embedded/installable font, that font would automatically, and in my
opinion arrogantly, get installed on the receiving system with no
action needed on the part of the user.

In Word 2003, not only does the font not get installed, but there is
no way to install such a font. This is also true of all Adobe
applications, by the way.

The only fonts that can be embedded are those that are installed on
the system creating the document; since the fonts don't get installed,
they can't be embedded. Editing (opening and closing) effectively
produces a new document.

I haven't tested this, but I'd guess that since the fonts aren't even
installed temporarily, you couldn't use them in another word document
open at the same time.

The soft licence give only ONE computer usage. Therefore you can only
open-read/print-close but not edit/save on an other computer the doc with
an embedded font. "Installable/Editable Embedding" mean such, not more.
That need a test, that such a doc can as embedded object in an other
MS document (XL, PP or WD) and lost or not the embedded fonts.

An other question, that what a result would give on the receiver computer
the "Embed TT fonts" with "Embed characters in use only" if the font,
like a virus would install from the doc.

Actually it has been working up until office 2003 (we have tested on
office 2000 and XP).
